Overview
Students participate in exciting STEM engineering projects that get students involved in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics with hands-on engaging projects. They will solve be solving problems, learning, and pushing innovation to the next level. The lessons/activities will be focusing on 21st century skills: Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, and Communication.
Intro to Engineering |
Automation & Robotics |
This class is designed to help students with science concepts related to energy, force, and motion, as well as, teach them the basics of engineering design. The students will be tasked with the challenge of creating solar-powered transportation on a small scale (it will actually work and pull weight). They also come away with a sense of how engineers are people who design solutions to real-world problems.
|
Students trace the history, development, and influence of automation and robotics as they learn about mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation, and computer control systems. Students use the VEX Robotics platform to design, build, and program real-world objects such as traffic lights, tool booths, elevators, and robotic arms.
|
Medical DetectivesIn the Medical Detectives (MD) unit, students play the role of real-life medical detectives as they analyze genetic testing results to diagnose disease and study DNA evidence found at a "crime scene". They solve medical mysteries through hand-on projects and labs, investigate how to measure and interpret vital signs, and learn how the systems of the human body work together to maintain health. Students will use tools such as the engineering design process and electrophoresis to solve a murder. They will learn how creative thinking and problem solving can change their world!
|
Design & ModelingStudents apply the design process to solve problems and understand the influence of creativity and innovation in their lives. They work in teams to design a toy that has a specific goal, capturing research and ideas in their engineering notebooks. Using design software, students create a virtual image of their designs and produce a portfolio to showcase their innovative solutions.
